The company’s Artistic Director, Iain MacDonald has spoken about upgrading the studios with Harlequin floors:

Rehearsals are underway for the company’s new production of Don Quixote, a 10-performance season, which runs from, 13th to 22nd March. Joburg Ballet will host two of The Royal Ballet’s major international ballet stars, Marianela Nuñez and Vadim Muntagirov, who will perform the leading roles at the Joburg Theatre on March 20th & 22nd. The other performances will feature Joburg Ballet’s own leading dancers accompanied by The Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra.

Commenting on the visit by Marianela Nuñez and Vadim Muntagirov, Joburg Ballet CEO Esther Nasser said: “It is a tremendous coup for Joburg Ballet to have engaged Ms Nuñez and Mr Muntagirov as guest artists for Don Quixote in what seems set to be one of the most exciting events on the South African ballet calendar in recent years.”

Artistic director Iain MacDonald added: “We look forward to welcoming Marianela Nuñez and Vadim Muntagirov to Joburg Ballet to dance two of classical ballet’s most dazzling roles. It will be an exciting experience not only for our audiences but also for our dancers who will be sharing the stage with Marianela and Vadim.”
