Teaming up with co-producers Manchester International Festival and Improbable, Scottish Opera has found the most adorable gap in the musical theatre market and on 5 July will be delighting audiences with a world premiere performance of a new production for infants aged 6 to 18 months.

The bambinis will be free to interact with the singers and explore the stage, which will be covered with Harlequin’s slip-free and hard-wearing Cascade performance surface, printed with a design of clouds to really add to the stimulating experience.

The ground-breaking new work, written by Scottish Opera’s Composer in Residence Lliam Paterson and directed by Phelim McDermott, will be premiered in Manchester before moving on to Edinburgh as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe from 8-20 August then to Glasgow for performances in Scottish Opera’s Production Studios from 21 Oct to 5 Nov.

Commenting on the work, Phelim McDermott said: “It is inspiring to create a new opera for what is possibly the most discerning – and important – audience there is. We all know that babies respond to music and we want to nurture and stimulate that relationship through their very first opera.”
