Strictly stars make their entrance on Harlequin Liberty Ballroom

16.10.2020

The antidote to 2020 we have all been waiting for, the return of sequins, sparkle and SEVENs from Craig Revel Horwood. The ‘fab-u-lous’ new season of Strictly launches this Saturday marking the rundown to the end of what has been an extremely tough year and adorning our screens with some much needed showbiz razzamatazz and stunning dance routines.

Presented by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, Strictly Come Dancing has been a Saturday night staple since 2004 and although there have been some adjustments this year due to Covid, the show is still made up of all the delicious ingredients this much loved family entertainment recipe has always offered.

One significant change has been a makeover to the Strictly set. This year the class of 2020 will perform the Tango, Waltz and American Smooth on a new, fully sprung Harlequin Liberty Ballroom floor.

This Harlequin Liberty sprung floor panel system is from the renowned range of Harlequin sprung floors, known and trusted by the world’s leading venues, dance companies and schools.  The panels have been printed with an elegant wood effect and are protected by a hard wearing lacquer.

Having a sprung floor means the dancers’ limbs and joints are given greater protection when carrying out lifts and jumps, and the lacquered surface offers just the right amount of traction allowing the dancers to glide and turn without the risk of slips or falls.  The Strictly production team also needed a surface which they could easily project onto. Harlequin worked with Patrick Doherty, Bafta Award Winning set designer on this iconic set.

As well as the fabulous main floor, dancers will also be training back stage on Harlequin Fiesta, a performance vinyl floor with a wood effect finish.

Harlequin Liberty Ballroom was recently the floor of choice for a Charity event, Dance Against Dementia ‘Night of 100 stars’ held at the Royal Horticultural Hall in London.  The Liberty Ballroom panels for this event were printed with a traditional Versailles print.

Professional World Ballroom Dance Champion Christopher Hawkins is also a fan of Harlequin Liberty Ballroom and has it installed in his home studio.

So, all that is needed now is a hot chocolate/wine, a comfy sofa and the tv remote. The class of 2020 is complete with their new dance floor and we are prepared for an exciting season of dazzling routines.  We believe the floor will score a resounding ‘10’ with dancers and celebrities alike and will be the unsung star of 2020!
