Expo 2025: A Bespoke Sprung Floor for the KSA Pavilion

Recognised with Best Large Pavilion and Best Pavilion Presentation awards, the KSA Pavilion has stood out as one of the most celebrated spaces at World Expo 2025. Behind this global recognition was a programme of live cultural residencies showcasing contemporary creativity.

Across six months in Osaka in 2025, the pavilion hosted multiple residencies for Saudi artists, produced by global production company Done+Dusted. Harlequin supplied a bespoke sprung floor for Saudi artist and interpretative dancer, Bilal Allaf.

Extensive research and planning were required to ensure the dance floor met the physical demands of performance while integrating seamlessly within an already architecturally designed studio space. A custom, pre-built sprung floor system was designed and manufactured off-site, before being shipped to Osaka ready for rapid installation.

The project was delivered in close collaboration with Harlequin’s Japan Representative, Junichi Kimura, who worked alongside Done+Dusted from the early design stages through to final installation.

Across a number of months, Junichi Kimura and his team guided and assisted us in the design, build and delivery of what was essential to our artist’s performance. A unique, one-of-a-kind, customised and pre-built dance floor was delivered to Osaka on schedule and without fail.”

Once installed, the floor was used daily for hours at a time throughout the residency. Mikey added: “Standing the test of time, the flooring was performed on daily, for one whole month, and never once faulted. Harlequin Floors were an integral part of the success of this residency.”

World Expo 2025 has provided a platform for nations to showcase innovation, culture and creativity on an international scale. Harlequin is proud to have contributed its technical expertise to a pavilion now recognised among the very best at Expo 2025.
